vs
New Zealand
Australia's stand-in captain and makeshift opener Michael Clarke was in charge of another shaky innings at the MCG, where a sharp New Zealand picked off three wickets after sending Australia in. At the halfway mark, Clarke was unbeaten on 47 and he had support from the vice-captain Michael Hussey on 15.
Without Shaun Marsh, who has a hamstring injury, and the resting Ricky Ponting, Australia's top order undertook some enforced renovations. Clarke opened with David Warner, Brad Haddin was bumped up to No. 3 and David Hussey came in next but apart from Clarke's promotion, none of the moves worked terribly well.
